Meet Amanda Thurston Slack

“Aside from yoga, I love all things books, nature, and art.”

Amanda is so glad to have the opportunity to join the Wild Root community! She and her husband (Kirk) and moved to Lincoln in 2018 while Amanda was in the middle of her yoga teacher training at the Lincoln Yoga Center. Kirk is an electrician and Amanda thinks of herself as a Librarian with a capital “L”, although she currently working on her Masters in Library Science. For Amanda, a yoga studio and a library have a lot in common. They serve the community as a place where people can go to retreat from the noise of everyday life.

Amanda and Kirk currently have three dogs. Two (Jasper and Gigi) are our pups and one is an elderly foster dog named Kirby. They love them all like they are their kids!

Amanda was in her early 20s when she really leaned on a regular practice of yin yoga to balance out her anxious mind. At the time, Amanda was working on her undergraduate degree and struggling with anxiety and panic attacks. She also happened to be able to take a yoga class through the university she attended, which gave her a sense of calm during this period of immense change in life. Since then, Amanda’s physical yoga practice has honestly been somewhat elusive. When life gets really busy, she has found it much easier to incorporate meditation into her day and loosen the reins on her asana practice. In Amanda’s classes, you’ll see a sprinkling of meditation practices along with gentle physical movement. Although she loves the yin aspect of yoga, Amanda also enjoy incorporating abdominal work for the deep core muscles since this is a place where (energetically) confidence and deep emotions tend to reside.
